Spartan Sword & Shield Honors Program
“Put on the armor of God…hold faith as a shield and the sword which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:13, 16-17
The Spartan Sword and Shield Honors Program offers a challenging and collegial environment for highly motivated and academically competitive students. This very selective program is designed for the accelerated learner. The program is facilitated by experienced and inspiring faculty members who have expertise in various disciplines and are committed to their students' success. Students are enrolled in Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment courses, belong to national honor societies, participate in seminars, and are provided individualized support services.
As this program is intended for highly motivated and academically competitive students, it is by invitation only. Spartan Sword and Shield Candidates are first selected based on their High School Placement Test scores. If selected, candidates are notified via mail. Students receive an invitation to apply to the Honor’s Program, along with an application packet.
Once a candidate is accepted into the program, a curriculum is set in place from their starting year. Based on their chosen path, the student must take the predetermined classes in the honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment levels.
The curriculum in the Honors program is rigorous and challenging. Students enrolled in the Honors Program upon graduation will demonstrate a mastery of college level coursework and have maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75. Students are also expected to be actively involved in extra curricular activities, honor societies, and community service projects.
